The Journey: Mountain views, lake shore, muskeg, diverse flora and fauna are just a few of the highlights of this beautiful trail. Before the hike, there will be a stop at Whale Park for an opportunity to view wildlife from the boardwalk, and sometimes whales in the late fall and early spring months. Once at the Beaver Lake trailhead, you will begin your hike with towering hemlock, spruce, and yellow cedar. Hiking up about 500 feet in elevation to the muskeg and then Beaver Lake, you will loop around the shore, where you can often see eagles, ducks, and other birds. Your guide will share insights about the islands' history, flora, and fauna while you take in the 360* views of nearby rugged mountains, and explore the muskeg. Level of difficulty: Moderate. The hiking time is about 2.25 hours. There is a steep grade at the beginning and end of this trek, with the middle section around the lake having little elevation change. This hike is for those who are accustomed to regular activity and participants will need to be physically fit. Rock steps and boardwalk sections are often slippery. The trail has some areas where footing is difficult, including some uneven stepping stones and log steps. Number of participants & Age: This is a private guided hiking tour, and you can have up to 7 participants. There is no minimum age for private hikes, but please read our FAQ page for more information on age recommendations and transportation requirements for children 7 and under. A parent, a legal guardian, or an adult family member must accompany participants under 18. Meeting Location: We can pick you up at your place of choice (your hotel, cruise dock, Airbnb, etc.) Included: Transportation to and from the trail, a knowledgeable local guide, bear and wilderness safety, a light snack, hiking poles, and a bottle of water (but encourage participants to bring their own when possible to reduce single-use plastic waste).
