Tongass Treks is a U.S. Forest Service permitted company of the Tongass National Forest. Tours are conducted in the Tongass National Forest, under permit by and in partnership with the Forest Service, the State of Alaska, and the City of Sitka. We are dedicated to the importance of preservation and the Leave No Trace principles.

Tongass Treks commits a portion of annual revenue to Sitka Trail Works, a local organization dedicated to create, maintain, and promote a beautiful, diversified, and accessible trail system in Sitka and the surrounding area. These trails provide a wide range of opportunities for physical activity, economic development, cultural enrichment, and spiritual renewal.
About The Tongass
National Forest
The Tongass National Forest covers most of Southeast Alaska, surrounding the famous Inside Passage, and is the largest U.S. National Forest at 16.7 million acres. Most of its area is temperate rain forest and is remote enough to be home to many species of endangered and rare flora and fauna. The Tongass, which is managed by the United States Forest Service, encompasses islands of the Alexander Archipelago, fjords and glaciers, and peaks of the Coast Mountains. Sitka, and most of Baranof Island, is within the limits of the Tongass National Forest.
