About This Adventure:

This tour give you a chance to easily see the connections between places by combining sightseeing with light hiking across two or three different locations around Sitka. Each location provides a broader introduction to the landscapes that shape the Tongass National Forest. Depending on conditions, you may visit coastal beaches, salmon streams, waterfalls, rainforest trails, muskeg, lakes, estuaries, or elevated viewpoints - each offering a different perspective on Southeast Alaska's interconnected ecosystems. You'll spend time exploring how land, water, and wildlife interact. The same streams that carry salmon inland help nourish the surrounding forest. Wetlands and muskeg store and filter water. Estuaries provide important habitat for fish, birds, and marine life. Seeing several of these environments in a single outing often provides a better understanding of the region than spending the entire day on a single trail. Local residents often use the weather, tides, and seasonal conditions to decide where they spend time outdoors. A rainy day might be ideal for visiting a waterfall, while a low tide can reveal shoreline habitats that are inaccessible at other times. Rather than following a fixed itinerary, the route adapts to conditions, allowing us to make the most of the day and focus on the locations that are most rewarding to visit.
