Mosquito Cove & Starrigavan

Trek Description: This excursion combines three trails of the Starrigavan Recreation Area. Starting with the Mosquito Cove trail we will follow the shoreline to view saltwater activity and enjoy the dynamic exchange between land and water. From Mosquito Cove, we will wind back through the Tongass National Forest with western hemlock and Sitka spruce to the Starrigavan Estuary Life and Muskeg trail with mountain views and a diversity of plant life. Level of difficulty: Easy to Moderate. The hiking time is about 1.5 hours. There are some stairs and slippery surfaces, uneven tread, and occasional downed timber and rocks to step across. This hike is for those who are accustomed to regular activity and participants will need to be physically fit. PLEASE NOTE: If you wish to extend the length of this hike, there is the option to add a 1.5-mile section of the new cross trail to this excursion. Please contact us to request a longer hike and quote. Group Size & Age: This private trek can have up to 12 participants and has no age requirement. For groups larger than 7 people please contact us to request a quote. There is no age restriction for this trek, however, Tongass Treks cannot legally transport children under 65 pounds and less than 57 inches tall unless you provide a car seat or booster seat for your child. Sitka Baby Rentals (sitkababyrentals.com) provides baby equipment rentals if needed and can be picked up by Tongass Treks to have ready for your hike. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent, a legal guardian, or adult family member. Meeting Location: We can pick you up at your place of choice (your hotel, cruise dock, ferry, etc.) Included: Transportation to and from the trail, a knowledgeable local guide, bear and wilderness safety, snacks, hiking poles, sunscreen, and a bottle of water (but encourage participants to bring their own when possible to reduce single-use plastic waste).
