Trek Description

The Journey: Waterfalls, lake, mountain views, muskeg, diverse flora and fauna, this hike has it all! Before the hike, there will be a stop at Whale Park for an opportunity to view wildlife from the boardwalk, and sometimes humpback whales in the late fall and early spring months. Once at the the Herring Cove and Beaver Lake trailhead, you will begin your hike through the lush mossy temperate rainforest of hemlock, spruce, and yellow cedar and along beautiful waterfalls as you make your way up to the picturesque Beaver Lake. Hiking up about 600 feet in elevation to the lake, you will loop around the lake shore, where you can often see eagles, ducks, and other birds. Your guide will share insights about the islands' history, flora, and fauna while you take in the 360* views of nearby rugged mountains, and explore the muskeg before returning to sea level. Level of difficulty: Moderate/Difficult. The hiking time is about 2.5 hours. There is a steep grade at the beginning and end of this trek, with the middle section around the lakes having little elevation gain.
