Trek Description

Trek Description: Take your hiking experience to new heights on the Gavan Hill to Viewpoint hike. This challenging yet rewarding hike will take you through a mix of muskeg sections and a climb up wooden and rock steps. Hike amongst towering spruce, hemlock, and cedars, culminating at the viewpoint platform with stunning views of Sitka and the Indian River Valley at the 1,400-foot mark. If you are a fan of type-two fun, this a hike you won't want to miss! Level of Difficulty: Moderate/Difficult. The hiking time is about 3 hours. This trek's distance and uneven surfaces require participants to be accustomed to physical outdoor recreation. This hike is for those accustomed to regular activity and participants need to be physically fit. Trail Condition: There are many roots, steep staircases, rocks, log steps, and uneven boardwalk sections that can be slippery when wet. Group Size & Age: This private trek can have up to 7 participants and recommends participants to be 7 years of age or older. Tongass Treks cannot legally transport children under 65 pounds and less than 57 inches tall unless you provide a car seat or booster seat for your child. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent, a legal guardian, or adult family member. Please read our FAQ page for more information on age recommendations and requirements. Meeting Location: We pick you up at your place of choice (your hotel, cruise dock, ferry, etc.) Included: Transportation to and from the trail, a knowledgeable local guide, bear and wilderness safety, snacks, hiking poles, sunscreen, and a bottle of water (we encourage participants to bring their own when possible to reduce single-use plastic waste).
