Trek Description

The Journey: Embark on an epic adventure on the Gavan Hill & Harbor Mountain trail with unparalleled natural alpine beauty and breathtaking vistas of Sitka Sound. This rewarding hike will bring you through hemlock and spruce to the Gavan Hill ridge at just over 2,000 feet. Once above the treeline, you'll have breathtaking panoramic views of Sitka Sound, Mt. Edgecumbe, and the rugged peaks of Baranof Island. The rolling hills of the alpine will bring you to the hut which marks roughly the midpoint. Past the hut, you'll walk below the towering peaks of Harbor Mountain where the trail is lined with wildflowers in June and July and fall colors in August and September. Learn about the history, flora, and fauna while taking in the natural beauty of the Tongass National Forest on an unforgettable hike! *Note - This hike can be done in either direction. Please make mention if you have a preference in the comment section during checkout.* Level of Difficulty: Difficult. The hiking time is about 4.5 hours. The distance, steep elevation gain, and uneven surfaces of this trek require participants to be accustomed to physical outdoor recreation in all kinds of weather, without any facilities of any kind, and only for those who are physically fit. Trail Condition: There are roots, rocks, log steps, and boardwalk sections that can be slippery when wet, and extra caution will need to be taken. Group Size & Age: This is a private guided hiking excursion and you can have up to 7 participants. The recommended minimum age is 10 years or older, please read our FAQ page for more information on age recommendations and transportation requirements for children under 8 years old. A parent, a legal guardian, or an adult family member must accompany participants under 18. Meeting Location: We can pick you up at your place of choice (your hotel, cruise dock, ferry, etc.) Included: Transportation to and from the trail, a knowledgeable local guide, bear and wilderness safety, snacks, hiking poles, sunscreen, and a bottle of water (but encourage participants to bring their own when possible to reduce single-use plastic waste). Price: 1 or 2 People - $550, 3 People - $675, 4 People - $800, 5 People - $925, 6 People - $1,050, 7 People - $1,175 (taxes/fees not included).
