Trek Description

The Journey: This unique adventure starts with a 1-hour scenic boat ride to the northern end of Kruzof Island (home to Mt. Edgecumbe volcano) to Kalinin Bay. Once ashore we walk along the estuary to reach the Sea Lion Cove trailhead. After a short climb, the route flattens out and we will walk along a clear lake, and through muskeg, to the beach fringe of old-growth forest. The trail then emerges onto a wide-open two-mile-long white sand beach in Sea Lion Cove, at the edge of the Pacific Ocean. At the beach, you will have plenty of time to beach comb for treasures, enjoy lunch, and relax while taking in the beauty of this remote location. Level of Difficulty: Moderate/Difficult. The hiking time is about 3.5 hours. The distance and uneven slippery surfaces of this trek require participants to be accustomed to physical outdoor recreation in all kinds of weather, without any facilities of any kind, and only for those who are physically fit. Trail Condition: There are roots, rocks, log steps, and boardwalk sections that can be slippery when wet, and extra caution will need to be taken. Group Size & Age: This private hiking excursion and you can have up to 6 participants. Due to the level of difficulty, this trek requires participants to be 8 years of age or older. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent, a legal guardian, or an adult family member. Meeting Location: We can pick you up at your place of choice (your hotel, cruise ship dock, Airbnb, etc.) Included: Transportation to and from the trail, a knowledgeable local guide, bear and wilderness safety, lunch, hiking poles, sunscreen, and a bottle of water (but encourage participants to bring their own when possible to reduce single-use plastic waste).
