Trek Description
Looking for a big adventure of rewarding hiking and fun? This is your trail! We will start by hiking up series of steep switchbacks through hemlock and spruce to the Gavan Hill ridge line. Once above the treeline there are incredible vistas of Sitka Sound, Mt. Edgecumbe, and other rugged peaks of Baranof Island and beyond on clear days. Trail continues on rolling hills to the Gavan Hill alpine hunt that marks about roughly the midpoint. Past the hut the trail continues over rolling hills that are covered in beautiful wildflowers in June and July and fall colors in August and September. We will finish at the Harbor Mountain Trailhead and drive down an old WWII gravel road back to Sitka or your ship. Level of Difficulty: Difficult. The hiking time is about 4.5-5 hours. The distance, steep elevation gain, and uneven surfaces of this trek require participants to be accustomed to physical outdoor recreation in all kinds of weather, without any facilities of any kind, and only for those who are physically fit. Trail Condition: There are roots, rocks, log steps, and boardwalk sections that can be slippery when wet and extra caution will need to be taken. Group Size & Age: This private trek can have up to 7 participants. Due to the level of difficulty, this group treks require participants to be 14 years of age or older. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent, a legal guardian, or an adult family member. Meeting Location: This is a private trek and we can pick you up at your location of choice.
